Jim's Christmas Eve accident

Christmas Eve Jim was snowboarding on Mt Charleston with close family friends. He hit an icy patch and flipped his board landing on his back injuring 3 vertebrae. The did surgery at UMC Christmas Day. They sent him home from the hospital Tuesday evening. well... he made it through another night. Jim is tougher than we think. Although he is in a lot of pain he is working hard to get stronger. Thanks Grandma for having us at your place where he has everything he needs as well as a 24-7 nurse. Thanks friends and family for your prayers and support.
We are blessed.

Eleven Las Vegas Stampin Up demonstrators met at Tami's home where she greeted us with Christmas lights and decorations as well as a yummy dinner!

Thanks Tami. Dinner was wonderful, just like you!

as well as seeing who will take another's gift sending them back under the tree for more.

She created this and printed out a few copies then layered the images adding a little dazzle.

She will be teaching us all a My Digital Studio class January 5th at her home.

this is my husband and I on our last stampin up trip. all expenses paid. What a fun week to spend with my husband. He's happy I'm bringing in extra income with my stampin up business. Can you believe I get paid for showing others how to make fun things paper crafts like these pumpkins!

I also get paid for teaching classes like this one. Cute Halloween ideas... quick and easy with our fun Stampin Up punches!
I get to see my friends and I'm blessed to share all these fun prizes with team members and friends and everyone loves getting FREE Stampin Up merchandise at our events!

Look how much fun the girls are having creating their cards and necklace art.

We get together each year at convention to see old friends and make new ones!

The thing I liked best about being a stampin up demonstrator when my kids were you was it gave us something fun to do together and all four of our children are artistic! I loved being able to have friends over to stamp each week. Each year before the holidays a few friends and I would help our kids create little gift projects that we would sell at the Doodlebug craft show. Each of us would make a little extra money to go shopping for Christmas. It taught our kids that when we want something we can work for it. I do hope you will call me and see what being a demonstrator in your spare time is all about. It's the only Hobby that I have ever LOVED enough to share it with all my friends and family! Sherrill Graff's Stampin Up Regional Demonstration in Henderson Nevada

I would love to invite each of you who attended the Henderson Regional to share your positive comments here.

Beginner embossing workshop - at the end of my workshop demonstration I would show this card as well as let them make the center of this card so new customers can learn embossing. Most customers will add a silver or gold embossing power to their order after they try embossing for the first time. This set and any 3 step stamping set will work perfectly for this technique.

Intermediate Embossing workshop - At the end of my demonstration I would show them the resist technique and they would each create the background to this card. Customers would usually add clear embossing to their order. For the technique stamp and emboss your images using clear power. Then use daubers to ink around the embossed images to help them show up. Stamp black images and Distress the background.

The leaf image in the center has a thin coat of clear embossing over it.

Here is another sample I showed today.

The DSP has a thin layer of clear embossing powder over it and while the embossing was still pliable I punched it out with the ornament punch. If you wait until the embossing is completely cool the embossing may crack when you try and punch it out.

Advanced Embossing workshop

Many of you were able to see today at the Henderson Regional how I create embossing chips to use at my workshops.

To make the pre-melted embossing chips

I cover a cookie sheet with aluminum foil then I pour embossing powders onto the foil. I pre heat the oven to 350 degrees. TURN OFF the oven before you put the cookie sheet in. Keep the door closed. About 4 to 5 min later check and see that the embossing powder is melted. Take the cookie sheet out of the oven and allow to cool.

Once the embossing is cool, peel the foil away from the embossing from the foil. Break the embossing into chips and store in a plastic baggie to use at your workshops.

These samples are multi layered embosssed chip board.

The above sample has a line of sticky strip along the bottom that I poured embossing powder on and heated. I love that look.

This is a close up of the multi layered embossed embellishment I had on the stocking sample.

I was thrilled to have so many team members and friends there today. Thanks for the kind comments about my demonstration. I'm so glad you enjoyed it and learned a few new ways to use your embossing powders.

My Stampin Up story by Sherrill Graff

My story- Sherrill Graff

I became a demo in 1991. I just wanted to buy stamps for our 5 year old daughter at a discount. (Shelli was her room mother and did astampin up project for the Christmas Party, but that's another story) I soon realized once I saw the catalog that stamping wasn'tjust for kids.

When I started doing it as a business I borrowed stamp sets from Shelli and her sister (yes Shelli Gardner the co-founder of StampinUp.)

I'd make samples and then return the stamps and she would give me more to use. I was in Heaven!

My business began to grow and I became an upline myself. In the first year I added 14 new members to my team.

My first recruit is Loni Spendlove. She is still active and has a good sizeddownline of her own. My second recruit is my Twin sister Michele Hillam.

Michele was the very first demonstrator in the Denver Colorado area she also has a wonderful downline. Sadly she has dropped from Up. I try my best to take care of her team members as my own.

The real challenges started right after our youngest son was born. His middle name is Sterling after Sterling Gardner Shelli's husband. He was 3 months old when my Dear Husband Mark (only 34 years old) had his first heart attack.

I promised God if he would save my husbands life I would be a good person and raise a righteous family. After 5 bypass surgery and 6 months of recovery he was back to himself again.

Thank God for HUGE blessings. I sold all my stamps and my husband sold a gun or two to help pay the bills. (He is a hunter) The stamps sold for 80% of retail so it was like having an extra savings account I didn 't know about. It's nice to know they hold their value. Our parents helped too. We both have wonderful giving parents. We had help from the church and the community programs to provide Christmas for ourlittle Children.

3 years later my husband had another heart attack with Angioplasty. I thank God for modern medicine! We sold everything again to help pay the bills. Our parents helped us out again. We also had some help for Christmas this year as well.

3 years after that Mark had developed an aneurysm on one of his bypasses. It was like living with a time bomb wondering if this was they day he wouldn't return home from work. Soon after, he had yet, another heart attack!

This time we were waiting in the surgery waiting room when the doctor came out and said "there is nothing I can do" My mother in law and I looked at each other and started to cry thinking he was gone. The doctor said "oh, let me rephrase that, there is nothing I NEED to do! You have been given a miracle!"

He then explained thatMarks aneurysm was no longer a threat, that bypasshad clotted itself off and the artery they had bypassed in the first place had opened itself back up. The doctor said, things like this just don't happen.Mark's heart has grown 2 little veins that were feeding the back part of his heart. (Something that doesn't usually happen to heart patients until they are in their 50's)

We have truly been blessed!

God has stood by us, our families have stood by us, our friends have stood by us, Stampin Up has been there when I could do it and on the back burner when I could not. We are all healthy and happy. I thank Stampin Up for the wonderful Heart Set that raised such a nice donation for the Heart Association. It makes me feel good to know that we can help good organizations just by selling these special sets.

(right now they are helping Breast Cancer research with the HOPE set.

I am so glad I joined so many years ago. And just think, I signed up just for the discount!

In 2009 Mark went in and had 2 stents put in. The vessel that was giving him problems was 95% blocked, that vessel fed 2/3rds of his heart. No wonder he was having so much pain all the time.

Mark and I went to Hawaii compliments of Stampin Up in March of 2009. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary that August.

in 2010 he had another stent put in. The doctor said next time he will need bypass surgery again.

When Mark became unemployed, I started to run stampin up like a real business. I set up office hours and made sure I was doing productive activities while I worked 4 hours each day. I started holding a few more workshops each month.

I soon ran out of my close circle of family and friends to have workshops for me so I started doing community outreach events. You can learn more about these by searching Boot Camp on stampin connection.

I have found out what a real blessing Stampin Up has been in my life. It's always brought me joy and helped me make new friends but the best part is my little hobby has become my "real job"

It pays the half of thehouse payment, the car payment, the insurance, and the power bill.

How blessed we are to have this income.

As Mark continues to look for work we know that our bills will be paid because of the blessings of God, a little hobby that I love and his income from unemployment. May each of you who are looking to turn your little hobby into a business be blessed to continue on the path and never give up.

2011 and Mark and I went to Alaska with stampin up. I enjoyed a week vacation in Utah for Founders Circle and met so many wonderful group of demonstrators, women with integrity and a good business sense.

As long as I put God and Family first my stampin up business will continue to prosper. I still need to be consistent with activities to keep growing my circle of friends.

I'm looking forward to working towards earning the Fiji trip.

Stampin Up demonstrators - Making a Difference at the Las Vegas Ronald McDonald House

New Call for cards for the Las Vegas Ronald McDonald House

the RMHouse can use thank you cards for the parents to send home to the people watching their other children.
They can use thinking of you cards to give to the children 12-18 who are in the hospital so they know they are loved.
We stamped with a girl who was in the hospital and she felt like no one cared about her. worst than that she didn't like herself. I believe she was on suicide watch. She said to us, why are you here visiting me, you don't even know me. We said we wanted to share our love for stamping with her and just wanted her to know we cared.
They can always use kids cards, most of the parents cannot afford to buy anything in the hospital gift shop, and many of the family members can't even afford to go eat in the cafeteria, so our RMH packs 600 sack lunches each day and passes them out at the hospitals.

Sherrill Graff, "I have been a demonstrator since 1991 and so this is my 20th year with the company. I can say the conventions just keep getting better and better every year!!!! Stampin Up always puts in 110% . I love convention for the learning but more importantly for the relationships. It's so wonderful to see old friends and meet new ones. Our group comes on Sunday and plays Monday and Tuesday before convention. Never feel you are alone, once you get to SLC you will start to notice stampin up people everywhere and just say hello. If you let people know it's your first time they will open their circle of friends to you. I love the idea of swapping with everyone, I remember I too was new once and I remember how worried I was that my swap was not good enough. Every swap is worthy of trading and every person new or old should treat you like the wonderful person you are!!!!"

Advice for stampin up demos wishing to make a difference - by sherrill graff

People love to gather for charity events. Have you tried doing a stamping charity event for something close to your heart?
Excuse me if I talk about my experiences here, I hope that by sharing them something I say will rekindle a spark within you.

I started at the blind center helping sight impaired people create greeting cards. The only problem we ran into was the cheep round glue sticks that you get from the office supply roll off the table so do yourself a favor and buy 10 of stampin up's glue sticks, when they put them down at 2 o'clock, they can always find them! The big shot works great with this group since no one has ever cut their fingers! They can feel the ridge created on the edge of each item they cut out so they know which side of the cardstock us the front. The embossing folders are fun to use as well, They LOVE texture!!!
Go find a blind center near you, then bring with you 3-4 of your favorite customers to help the patrons to create the cards. They love it when each of them can have a personal helper. We have done some stamping with this group but they usually get ink all over their fingers just trying to find the open stamp pad.
How will this help you? Not only will you be doing a great service, service always helps us feel good but you will be helping your customers have fun while sharing their love for stamping. Once the center you go to sees you have this to offer they will continue to pass the word that you and your team of volunteers offer this service each month. If you need more volunteers send out a help wanted e-mail to your customer base.

When a charity event touches peoples hearts, they will do all they can to help and support worthwhile causes.

We have stamped cards for the kids for the past several years and it go so big at one point that volunteers of southern nevada were sending us helpers to help create the cards. Some months we would have over 40 volunteers in one day!
We have held these events at libraries, at recreation centers, UNLV, at IHOP and at the Ronald McDonald house as well!
Customers and friends have even brought retired DSP and cardstock to use. We have even gone into the elementary schools to involve the children in this community service. Try it, it's a great way to tell others what you do and get them involved. The BEST part is the SMILES on the children's faces when they receive the cards and know they are loved!

The last few events we have done have been to create cards and scrapbook pages for women who have been affected by cancer.
The new HOPE set is perfect for this.
The Pink Hope Card is just one that was created by Kay Capps that will be given to one of Dr. Spotts patients. Kay sent a wood mounted HOPE stamp set along with her card donations so a friend we have not met yet will know she is loved and that she is not alone.

Do you have a charity that is close to your heart? Most of the advertising for these events have been done by word of mouth and on the internet. It's amazing how many volunteer to help make a difference in the lives of others.
I have even had a few ladies book a home workshop to create cards for the kids or purchase the build a bear dies to make it easier to cut more bears at one time. Our Team members and demo friends have really gone the extra mile to make sure the needs of the sick, the blind, and the lonely are taken care of.
Stampin Up Demos both Men and Women are really the HEART of this company!!!! Thanks for all you do each day to touch lives in a positive way!

This is the Room we were given on our stampin up Alaska cruise. We loved it and felt to spoiled. They cleaned our room each morning whie we were at the gym then they came and turned down the bed while we were at dinner.

This is our first gathering, look at these one + mugs stampin up provided for our hot chocolate. There were tables full of candies, all kinds of candy and plenty of chocolate too!

Dinner with our friends Mark and I, Judy and Pablo, Susan and Doug. These dinners were my favorite part of our trip. Good friends, good conversations. Thanks friends for sharing each night with us.

We gathered in the main theatre where Shelli and Pam showed us a TON of NEW products and projects and gave us the NEW catalog!!!! We took it to our rooms and looked at every single page!!! Whoo hooo... I already have a huge wish list and the new hostess sets are to die for!

We had dinner with Rich and Wendi and they took us up to see the bridge where the first mate was supervising while another officer drove the boat.

Formal night, it was so good to spend time with friends. Thanks Caroline for stopping by our table!

What is a Shoebox Swap? You design a project and prepare the supplies for 6 other people. Usually, you can fit all the supplies in a “shoebox” (or small container), easy to pass aroundthe table! Bring 2 completed projects (one for display with your project box and the other to go to the contest table for voting. After voting, these projects will be given to Sherrill Graff, event co-ordinator).

Happy to be alive

Each day I wake up is a blessing. I'm so happy just to be able to LIVE and enjoy each day! I had a friend take me to the store "Savers" yesterday. it was my first time going there. It's a thrift shop where pants are $5 I also found a belt for $2 and a bra for $3. I was thrilled to find clean pressed clothes for so little. I had a milestone yesterday. I went to wear a pair of shorts to the gym and found out that they are way too big for me now. So I tied them up with a ribbon and wore them to the gym anyway. It was a blast showing my close friends how much room was in them :)
I think it also helped me work harder on the elliptical machine to have seen that kind of progress. That same friend pushes me to do more weight lifting and I can feel it paying off. What used to be hard is getting easier!!! YIPPEE!!

so thankful for my many blessings for a family who support me and friends who care for a belief that is keeping me hopeful even in the face of such a trial. Here's to praying we all have a wonderful day full of the little joys that make us smile

As you know I have been a power house last year earning the top 100 founders circle, and working hard to help provide money for the family while my husband has been out of work.

Since September of 2010 I just haven't had the motivation I needed to keep up.
Now I know why....

In the past my doctor said "the only thing wrong with you is you are overweight"
Well this years physical blood work and mammogram hasn't turned out that way.

my cholesterol is down to 147 and my weight is down 37 pounds but my thyroid is low and they found that the lump I had last time has doubled in size as well as they found 2 new lumps one of which is larger than the old one. To my it feels like the size of a walnut.

I'm going in for a few more tests next week.

I'm going to have to lean more on my faith. I know God can cure me if it's his will and I pray that the lumps are not cancerous.

No matter what I'm still going to convention to be with all of you in July for our pre convention events!!!!!
the LNS Instructors and Barbara do everything anyway... really, all I do is talk a lot :)

Please add your prayers to mine.... I don't want to miss out on my 20th year celebration with stampin up, the walk across the stage with all my friends cheering me on, and I really want to have many more years to enjoy life to the fullest. There are so many thing I still want to do!

Thanks in advance for your prayers on our behalf. I'll do my very best to overcome this trial and go on to watch my grandchildren grow up!
My mom passed away from cancer at 46 and I'm already 47 years old so there is nothing saying I have to give up on a great future!!!!

We reap what we sow, I have always believed that.

How well our events go usually depends on what we put into them.
My best suggestion, if you believe in God which I think you do is to pray about your events, pray about your business, pray to bless the lives of others with your service. Last year I know God answered my families prayers over an over again, he is still answering them. I believe our efforts are multiplied when we ask God for guidance and do what we think is best.

It's important to keep first things first.
What is your biggest priority?
We put God and family first, then everything else seems to fit into place.

When it comes to supplies, I try and use what I have first.
It's almost like a game, I look for ideas using stamps I already own then modify the idea to use the supplies I have on hand.

When a new mini comes out I try not to purchase more then I know I will use.
If you are meeting new customers each week you can show the same thing all week long and not have to worry about a guest seeing the same thing twice.

I like to plan 3 samples for the entire month and cut 40-60 of them at one time. I pack everything I need into a small suitcase and put it in my car. That way I can do a workshop on a moments notice. If I notice I'm running low on something I write myself a note and replenish that item before my next event.

I hope some of these ideas help.
I just know from my own experience when I used to have small children, I'd spend way to much time looking up and planning ideas, much more time than I needed to. Back then I wasn't as confident in my skills as I am today.
It comes with practice. I also used to buy a bunch of stuff each quarter thinking I would use all of it, knowing it would be nice to have but sadly finding out many of the items were new in June when they retired.
It's sort of like going to the grocery store without your meals planned out and without a shopping list.
BE WISE
In this economy we can't afford to waste time, or have supplies we don't use.
Try to use what you have and pray that it will all work out.
One last thing before I get off my soap box...
If we put service first the sales will come on their own. When we go into a workshop thinking about sales as our main objective, we are easily disappointed.

On average Americans spend 40 hours a week watching TV reading recreational books and playing online/video games

I have heard many demonstrators say "I just can't find the time to work my business" "if only there were a few more hours in the day."

Please take the time to think about how you spent your day yesterday.
How much time did you spend
sleeping, working, reading, cleaning, teaching, socializing, watching TV, cooking, blog hopping or playing video games?

Take the time to write down what you did and then total up the time you spent in each activity.
My husband and I did this a few years ago with our bills to see that we were spending over 25% of our income on fast food and video rentals.
This habit was easy to control once we realized how much money we spent on these things.

a good way to avoid any addictive compulsive behavior is to to understand the importance of balance in our lives. Stampin Up is always talking about balance. Dale Filmore talked about Putting first things first, when he said Make the main thing "the Main Thing" at leadership in Arizona.

Is your family, your career, your schooling, your stampin up business, your other job the MAIN THING
what is it that causes you to do what you do?

Living life with Passion and a Purpose.... As life goes on our focus may change and develop. What was more important to me while the children were young is a little less important now as our children are older.

IF YOU THINK things are getting in the way of you accomplishing what is MOST IMPORTANT ask yourselves these questions

• Do you play, read, or watch compulsively?
• Do you play, read, or watch for long periods of time (often longer than you had planned)?
• Once online, do you have difficulty stopping?
• Do you play, read, or watch as often as you can?
• When you are not playing, reading, or watching, do you obsess about the game, story or show ?
• Do you sacrifice real-world things for your online world?
• Is your gaming, reading, watching negatively affecting your relationships with family members or other friends?
• Have your sleep patterns changed since you became involved with online gaming? Are you staying up extremely late or getting up in the middle of the night to play?

I have only been playing online video games for 8 weeks now but I have seen a result that I need to change. When I used to have free time, I'd prepare for a workshop, I'd visit with customers, I'd stamp with friends, or I would spend time calling leads and booking events.

Playing a game or watching TV is easier but it won't bring you the feeling of satisfaction of a job well done. It will however take time away from your day that could be used more productively.

It's up to each of us how we spend our 24 hours of every day.
Let's take the time to examine how we spend our time and see if there are a few more minutes we can spend on activities that will truly make a difference in our lives and in the lives of our family, friends, and customers.

Stampin up has been in business for over 20 years. They have a home office in Riverton Utah and a manufacturing plant in Kanab Utah.

While in St George Utah last week with with many of the top 100 acheivers we took a road trip to Kanab to visit the plant where stampin up employees make an exclusive line of rubber stamps.

Stampin up products can be ordered from stampin up demonstrators at home workshops or on our websites.

Stampin' Up! offers business opportunities to people interested in becoming demonstrators. I started 19 years ago because of the discount on my purchases but over the past few years I was able to work stampin up for my business to help earn an income for our family while my husband was unemployed. It was nice to be able to earn money doing something I really love.

Whether you'd like to earn money to pay for your stamping supplies, create a full or part-time career, or simply get a discount on your stamping supplies, Stampin' Up! will help you do it.

Since July of 2010 stampin up has added over 7 thousand members to their demonstrator sales force, we are looking to add 3 thousand more before the end of the year. I have a personal goal of adding 3 more team members and helping them get on the fast track to earning a good income.

When they succeed, we all succeed.

We are paid a 20% base commission but when we order enough to submit a workshop we also earn 20% in free hostess merchandise. Every demonstrator also earns 10% in great reward points which can be spent on more merchandise.

Demonstrators who are good at what we do, earn another 10 - 20 % volume rebate in cash.

Demonstrators who have built a team receive downline overrides each month from the company as well. This added paycheck has helped my family over the years.

I have been blessed with a good size team just by consistently adding a few team members each year.

It's not hard when you love what you do and you love sharing the art of rubber stamping and scrapbooking with others.

Here is a card I did with the darling Merry Crittermas Stamp Set. Featured in my New Natural Card Stand

I love stamping the images in Black Stazon and then using my Watercolor Pencils and Blender Pens. It makes it so easy to color. I wanted to make this cute little image just pop off the page but I needed something else to signify it’s cuteness. I had a piece of Red Stripped Grosgrain already tied on my desk and put that on and it just made all the difference in the world. Cute Stamp and cute Bow. I did the bow with my Magic Bow Maker….which I’m selling on my blog
